Pregnant woman stabbed to death by lover in Delhi; husband kills attacker in revenge
New Delhi: A violent dispute over an extramarital relationship ended in bloodshed in central Delhi, leaving two people dead, media reports said.
A pregnant woman was brutally stabbed to death by her lover in full public view in Ram Nagar, before her husband killed the attacker, reported NDTV.
The victim, Shalini, 22, a homemaker and mother of two daughters, was married to Akash, 23, an e-rickshaw driver who is now hospitalised in critical condition, the report said.
The attacker, Aashu alias Shailendra, 34, was a known local criminal who had been in a relationship with her.
According to police, Aashu claimed that Shalini was pregnant with his child and was enraged by her decision to reunite with her husband, according to the report.
The attack unfolded late on Friday night when Akash and Shalini were visiting her mother at Qutub Road.
Police said Aashu suddenly appeared and tried to stab Akash, who managed to dodge the blow.
Spotting Shalini in a nearby e-rickshaw, he attacked her repeatedly with a knife.
As Akash tried to protect his wife, he too was stabbed, but managed to overpower Aashu, snatch his knife, and fatally stab him.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan said Shalini and Aashu were declared dead at the hospital, while Akash sustained multiple stab wounds, according to the NDTV report.
Shalini’s mother, Sheila, told police her daughter’s marriage had soured a few years ago, during which she became involved with Aashu and lived with him for a while.
The couple later reconciled, which enraged Aashu.
He allegedly claimed to be the father of her unborn child, while Shalini maintained Akash was the father — a dispute that police believe led to the fatal attack.
