Pranab Mukherjee condoles loss of lives in Kerala temple attack

New Delhi, Apr 10 (IBNS) President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday condoled the loss of lives due to an incident at Kollam’s Puttingal temple at Kollam in Kerala.

In a message to P. Sathasivam, Governor of Kerala, the President  said, “I am shocked and distressed to learn about the incident at Kollam’s Puttingal temple this morning, as a result of which a large number of persons have lost their lives and others are injured. I understand relief operations are currently underway."

"I am sure the State Government and other agencies are providing all possible assistance to the bereaved families as well as the best of medical attention to the injured," he said.

"Please convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. My prayers are with all the injured persons for their speedy recovery,” he said.

At least 106 people were killed and scores others were injured as a fire broke out at Puttingal temple in Kerala's Kollam district on Sunday, making Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the site.

Modi visited the state with a team of burn specialists. He met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy & local administration officials.
