Politicians spinning dreams but not delivering could face consequences: Nitin Gadkari

]Mumbai, Jan 27 (IBNS): Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said political leaders will have to answer to the people if they do not deliver on their promises.

Speaking to mediapersons in Mumbai, Gadkari said: "Political leaders are fond of spinning dreams, but if they cannot deliver it, they may take a beating from the people. So promise only what is possible."

"I'm not one of those who spin dreams. Whatever I say is with 100 per cent authority," said the former BJP president.

This is the latest in a series of Gadkari's comments apparently aimed at the current leadership in his party.

In December last year, Gadkari had said if MLAs and MPs were not performing, the party president should take responsibility for the situation.

"If one looks closely, the success of the Home Ministry today is because of their trained and skilled IAS and IPS officers. Proper training is the most important part. I believe that overall, majority of the IPS, IAS officers are clean and does a good job but if I am the party president, and my MLAs are not doing well, my MPs don't perform then I am responsible. What have I done to groom them," Gadkari said speaking at an event, NDTV said.

The Union minister also said tolerance was an integral aspect of India's culture. This was significant in the wake of the controversy and reactions by BJP leaders over actor Naseeruddin Shah's comments against mob violence.

Gadkari had also said everyone liked to take credit for successes but no one like to take responsibility for defeat.

This had come after the BJP's defeats in the recent Assembly elections.
