Police urge accused JNU students to surrender
New Delhi, Feb 22 (IBNS): Five JNU students, accused of sedition and missing for days, have returned to the campus but were not arrested.
The students have told mediapersons that they are ready for arrest.
However, the police, who have not been allowed to enter the campus, said the students must surrender themselves.
Delhi Police Chief BS Bassi said: "They should join the probe. If they say they are innocent, they should present evidence of their innocence."
Earlier, Umar Khalid, one of the prime accused in the JNU sedition row said that he never considered himself a Muslim but felt it for the first time after charges were brought against him, upon his return to the JNU campus on Sunday.
Khalid and his mates were missing from the campus ever since the varsity erupted with protests flaring high.
Besides Umar Khalid, other student leaders like Anirban, Ashutosh, Rama Naga and Ananth Prakash also garnered support from the other students and teachers in the campus who sat with them for an over night demonstration.
Though police arrived at the spot, they were denied entry as they remained outside the campus gates for the night.
