Police recover suspected IED in Assam’s Barpeta district

Guwahati, July 8 (IBNS): Assam police recovered suspected explosive from lower Assam’s Barpeta district on Sunday.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input, a police team launched an operation at Joshihatipara area under Howly police station and recovered suspected explosive like an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Later, bomb squad team safely defused the suspected explosive.

Barpeta district Superintendent of Police (SP) Violet Baruah said that acting on a tip-off, a police team launched operation at Joshihatipara area under Howly police station and recovered a suspected explosive, which was abandoned there.

“The bomb squad team had defused the suspected explosive, but yet to confirm as it was an IED. We will send the recovered items to the forensic laboratory and experts will verify it,” the Assam cop said.
