Police question key suspect in Kerala student rape and murder case
Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 16 (IBNS): Kerala police have taken into custody a key suspect associated with the rape and murder of a Dalit student in Ernakulam district, according to media reports.
The 30-year old student was raped, mutilated and murdered at her home on April 28, at a time when Kerala was getting ready for its Assembly elections.
NDTV, quoting police sources, reported interrogation is currently underway and some test results are awaited before he could be arrested but a breakthrough seems likely.
The case drew wide-spread attention not only for its gruesome nature but also because of the alleged administrative negligence.
After becoming the chief minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan formed a new team to investigate the case. A senior woman IPS officer was appointed as head of a Special Investigation Team to probe the case, the media reported
The newly-appointed Commissioner of Police Loknath Behera also visited the student's home.
