Police bust human trafficking gang in J&K' Budgam, 3 held, 14 victims rescued

Srinagar/UNI: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed that it busted a human trafficking gang in the Budgam district by arresting three people and rescued 14 victims.

Some of the rescued women are minors.

Police said 14 women were rescued during a raid in the village of Dulipora Budgam.

“Acting upon information of human trafficking being operational in the district, a team of police station Budgam raided a particular place in village Dulipora and rescued 14 women victims (including some minors) from the house of Shamim Ahmad Bhat and adjacent places,” a police statement said.

Accordingly, Shamim Ahmad and the other two accused namely Shagufta and Asmat, both residents of Dulipora Parthan were arrested.

Police said a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Budgam police station.

“During preliminary investigation, it has been found that the arrested accused are involved in human trafficking by gathering girls from different places and exploiting them in district Budgam and other parts of the valley,” the statement added.

Police said further investigation into the case is going on and more arrests are expected.

Meanwhile, the rescued human trafficking victims have been shifted to Nari Niketan Rehabilitation Centre Chadoora and the process for their rehabilitation has been initiated.
