Poachers' gang sell rhino horns by from Guwahati hotels: Assam Forest minister

Guwahati, Mar 17 (IBNS): Assam Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma on Friday said that, poachers use sophisticated weapons to kill one horned rhinoceros in Assam and illegal rhino horn trade is carried from Guwahati based hotels.

The Assam minister said that, the state forest department and other security agencies have found vital clues about presence of poachers and international illegal traders in several city based hotels.

“In past times, several consignments of illegal rhino horn trade were made in Guwahati based hotels. After fixing the rate, the gang had sent it to Myanmar, China, Thailand like countries,” Brahma said.

The Assam Forest Minister further said that, poacher gang had also used China made ulta-modern boat and other accessories to kill rhinos in the state.

“To check the poaching incidents and fight against poachers, the state forest department has taken adequate measures by providing sophisticated weapons to forest guards,” Brahma said.

Pramila Rani Brahma said that, the forest department will use drone in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) to protect wild animals in the world heritage site.

On the other hand, poachers had killed another one horned rhino at Rajiv Gandhi Natioanl Park in Orang and taken away its horn.

According to the reports, the rhino was killed by poachers three days ago and forest guards of the park had found the bullet injuries dehorned carcass of a male rhino inside the park on Friday morning.
