PM visits Gujarat after grand electoral triumph

| @indiablooms | May 26, 2019, at 08:33 pm

Ahmedabad, May 26 (UNI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gujarat for the first time on Sunday, after winning the 2019 general elections with a thumping majority.

On reaching the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport here, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Governor O.P. Kohli, chief minister Vijay Rupani, deputy CM Nitin Patel, Gujarat BJP president Jitu Waghani, home minister Pradeep Singh Jadeja and chief secretary JN Singh.

Mr Modi was accompanied by BJP national president Amit Shah.

A large number of people had gathered en route the airport to JP Chowk, located in Khanpur, just to get a glimpse of their leader.

However, in the wake of the recent Surat tragedy, wherein 23 children were killed in a major fire at the Smart Design Studio in Sarthana area of the city, no drums were played during the Prime Minister's visit.

Mr Modi later addressed BJP workers in a meeting at JP Chowk.

Late in the evening, Mr Modi will meet his mother Hiraba at her residence in Gandhinagar, seeking her blessings. He will return to New Delhi on Monday.
