New Delhi, Oct 3 (IBNS): Creating history, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday was awarded the UN Champions of the Earth Award.

UN secretary general Antonio Guterres handed over the award to the PM here.

Appreciating the PM, Guterres said: "We are recognising a statesman who embodies true leadership. In the PM, we have a leader who realises the issue of climate change and understands the benefits of climate action. He knows the problems & also works to solve them ."

The UN leader said the green economy is a 'good economy'.

" A green economy is a good economy. Technology is on the side of those who believe in a green economy. Those who believe in a grey economy have a grey future," he said.

Modi dedicated the award to the people of India.
