Indian PM Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Dr Navin Ramgoolam for winning the polls in Mauritius.

Modi said he is looking to strengthen the unique relationship shared between India and Mauritius.

"Had a warm conversation with my friend @Ramgoolam_Dr, congratulating him on his historic electoral victory. I wished him great success in leading Mauritius and extended an invitation to visit India," Modi posted on X.

"Look forward to working closely together to strengthen our special and unique partnership," he said.

Apart from wishing him on X, Modi also spoke with Navinchandra Ramgoolam and invited him to visit India.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi recalled the immense contributions made by Ramgoolam and as well as by Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the Father of Nation, over the years in strengthening the bilateral ties between India and Mauritius.

"Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to work closely together to further deepen and advance the special and unique partnership," read the statement issued by the Indian government.

Labour Party leader Dr Navin Ramgoolam-led coalition came to power by registering a landslide victory in the polls.

Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth-led coalition failed to take back any of the 62 seats that were up for grabs.

Jagnauth has conceded defeat.

Ramgoolam served as the PM of the country from 1995 to 2000 and again from 2005 to 2014.
