PM Narendra Modi congratulates Tharman Shanmugaratnam for winning Singapore Presidential Polls, says looking forward to work with him

New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi has congratulated Tharman Shanmugaratnam on his election as the President of Singapore.

Modi said he is looking forward to working with him to enhance India-Singapore Strategic Partnership.

In a X post, the Prime Minister said: “Hearty congratulations @Tharman_s on your election as the President of Singapore. I look forward to working closely with you to further strengthen the India-Singapore Strategic Partnership.”

Indian-origin Singapore economist Tharman Shanmugaratnam clinched the Presidential election in Singapore recently.

He beat two Chinese origin in the country's first contested presidential polls since 2011.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam secured 70.4 per cent votes in the presidential polls.

The other two contenders- Ng Kok Song and Tan Kin Lian- received 15.7 per cent and 13.88 per cent votes respectively.
