PM Modi wishes people of Maharashtra, Gujarat on statehood day

New Delhi, May 1 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted people of Maharashtra and Gujarat on Tuesday, the two Indian states which were formed on the same day in 1960.

On May 1, 1960, Bombay was bifurcated into Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Greeting people of Maharashtra, Modi tweeted, "Best wishes to the people of Maharashtra on their Statehood Day. I pray for the continued progress and prosperity of Maharashtra. May the state scale new heights and keep contributing to the development journey of our nation."

Greeting people of his home state, the Prime Minister said in a tweet, "Greetings on Gujarat Diwas. The state’s people are known for their simplicity and entrepreneurial zeal. Gujarat has made a significant contribution in our nation’s history, especially during the freedom movement. May Gujarat continue to add impetus to India’s progress."
