PM Modi watches 'The Sabarmati Report', Vikrant Massey says 'highest point in my life'

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday lauded Vikrant Massey-led Hindi film 'The Sabarmati Report' after he watched it along with National Democratic Alliance (NDA) members of Parliament.

"Joined fellow NDA MPs at a screening of 'The Sabarmati Report.' I commend the makers of the film for their effort,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi had earlier hailed 'The Sabarmati Report', which deals with the controversial incident of the 2002 Godhra riots, and said the "truth is coming out".

Modi posted on X, "Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out!"

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Vikrant Massey, who earlier in the day announced retirement from acting, said it is his biggest achievement that PM Modi watched the film with him.

"I urge everyone to watch the film in cinemas. If you ask me this is the highest point in my life that PM Modi watched the film with me," Massey said.

He, however, refused to respond to the question about his retirement post on Instagram.

Vikrant Massey announces retirement:

In an utter dismay for his fans, Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey on Monday announced retirement from films at the age of just 37.

Vikrant, who has delivered mesmerising performances with 12th Fail, Sector 36, The Sabarmati Report in recent times, announced his retirement on Instagram.

"The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each and everyone of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realise it's time to recalibrate and go back home. As a Husband, Father & a Son. And also as an Actor.

"So coming 2025, we would meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right. Last 2 movies and many a years of memories. Thank you again. For everything and everything in between. Forever indebted," the actor wrote in a note. (sic)

About 2002 Godhra riots

On February 27, 2002 morning, the Sabarmati Express carrying hundreds of passengers including a sizable number of karsevaks (Hindu volunteers) arrived at Godhra Railway Station.

After the train departed the station, the driver claimed he had to halt the coaches because emergency chains were pulled multiple times.

This was followed by an attack on the train with about 2,000 people pelting stones. Four train coaches were set on fire leading to the death of 59 people and injuries to 48 others.

The attack led to riots in different parts of the state for weeks.

Prime Minister Modi, who was then Gujarat Chief Minister, was blamed over his handling of the incident that had brought about a change in Indian politics.

However, the Supreme Court-led probe found Modi was not responsible for the situation in the state.
