PM Modi takes stock of Delhi car explosion, Amit Shah says all angles are being probed

"Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the blast in Delhi earlier this evening. May the injured recover at the earliest. Those affected are being assisted by authorities. Reviewed the situation with Home Minister Amit Shah Ji and other officials," PM Modi said in a statement.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that all angles are being probed and that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and, National Security Guard (NSG) have joined the Delhi Police in the investigation.

"We are looking into every possible angle, every option will be probed, and whatever comes out from the investigation will be shared with the public," Shah said in a media briefing this evening.

Shah also visted the hospital where the injured have been taken.

The explosion occurred around 6:52 pm near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, a bustling area that sees hundreds of tourists and commuters during the evening hours.

According to visuals, the explosion was so intense that it reduced the vehicle, a Swift Dzire, to mangled metal and shattered windows in the vicinity.

Three to four other vehicles parked nearby also caught fire, sustaining severe damage.

Speaking to the media, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said: "Today at around 6.52 pm, a slow-moving vehicle stopped at the red light. An explosion happened in that vehicle, and due to the explosion, nearby vehicles were also damaged."

Emergency services responded swiftly. Fifteen fire engines were deployed, and it took firefighters nearly 30 minutes to douse the flames and prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby shops and buildings.

Teams from the NIA, NSG, Delhi Police Crime Branch, and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have reached the site to collect evidence.

Forensic experts are examining debris from the car to determine the type and source of the explosive used.

Senior officers confirmed that the injured have been admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital (LNJP), where several remain in critical condition. The area around the Red Fort and the adjoining metro station has been sealed off, and traffic diverted.

Following the blast, the Prime Minister was briefed on the situation by Home Minister Amit Shah and top intelligence officials. Media reports, quoting sources, said PM Modi has asked agencies to “leave no angle unexplored”, particularly in light of the recent seizure of nearly 2,900 kg of explosive material in Haryana’s Faridabad.

The Faridabad recovery, linked to a network of radicalised professionals led by Dr. Mujammil Shakeel from Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, is now being examined for possible connections to the Delhi explosion.

Security has been tightened across the National Capital Region and several northern states, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, which have been placed on high alert.

The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of India’s most iconic monuments, was closed to visitors immediately after the blast as security forces swept the area for secondary devices.

As forensic teams continue their work late into the night, officials have not yet confirmed whether the explosion was the result of terrorist activity, but early indications suggest the use of high-intensity explosives.
