PM Modi speaks to father of Indian student killed in Kharkiv
New Delhi/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke to the father of Naveen Gyanagoudar, the Indian student, who was killed in Russian shelling in Kharkiv city of Ukraine.
Modi offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, sources said.
Earlier, the External Affairs Ministry confirmed the death of the student.
"With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family. We convey our deepest condolences to the family," MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted.

"Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla is calling the Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate our demand for urgent safe passage for Indian nationals, who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones. Similar action is also being undertaken by our Ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine," he added.

Similar action is also being undertaken by our Ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai too expressed shock at the incident and offered condolences to the family of the student.
"We are constantly in touch with the MEA and will make all efforts to bring back his mortal remains," he said in a tweet.
