PM Modi receives warm welcome in Papua New Guinea; counterpart James Marape touches feet to show respect

Port Moresby: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, on Sunday, continuing his three-nation tour.

He received a warm welcome upon his arrival, with Prime Minister James Marape showing respect by touching his feet.

The two leaders then shared a hug, symbolizing a friendly gesture.

Prime Minister Modi was also introduced to other officials present during the visit.

PM Modi was greeted with a grand welcome by the Indian diaspora in Papua New Guinea, who cheered and enthusiastically interacted with him.

They expressed their joy by clicking selfies with the prime minister and cheering him.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi thanked the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea for welcoming him at the airport personally. "This is a very special gesture which I will always remember," he wrote.


Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday concluded two days of hectic bilateral and multilateral engagements with key partners in Hiroshima, including attending the G7 Summit, and left for Papua New Guinea for the Third Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) Summit.
