PM Modi mourns former Punjab CM Surjit Singh Barnala's demise

New Delhi, Jan 14 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday mourned the death of former Punjab Chief Minister Surjit Singh Barnala.

Modi tweeted: "Pained by demise of Shri Surjit Singh Barnala. His rich service & contribution to the nation will be remembered. Condolences to his family."

He was 91.

He passed away after prolonged illness.

He died at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh where he was admitted recently.

The leader had also served as the Union Minister and Governor of Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Andhra Pradesh.
