PM Modi launches projects worth Rs. 557 crore in Varanasi, promises to proved world class infrastructure

Varanasi, Sept 18 (IBNS) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday  inaugurated and laid the foundation of various development projects worth Rs 557.39 crore in Varanasi, his constituency, saying his aim is to provide world class infrastructure to the city.

The projects inaugurated by Modi include the Integrated Power Development Scheme for Puraani Kashi and an Atal Incubation Centre at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

Addressing the gathering the Prime Minister said that his government is trying to ensure the development of Varanasi as the gateway of Eastern India.

"The government aims at providing world-class infrastructure to Varanasi," the PM said. 

He said with projects like ring roads for the city being implemented, one an feel the change after four years. He said many roads are being constructed to connect the city with other states.

"Efforts are being made to uplift the living standard of people of Varanasi. Kashi is now one of the few cities in India where cooking gas being supplied to homes via pipeline. Efforts to provide cooking gas through pipeline to over 40,00 houses are underway," he said.

"Efforts are on  to clean river Ganga from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar. Till now, schemes worth Rs 21,000 crore approximately have been approved towards cleaning of river Ganga," he added.

Modi also said that rail connectivity has increased over the last four years and Varanasi has become beautiful with the clean and new looking ghats.

He said Kashi will be in under the spotlight next year when Pravasi Bhartiya Divas will be organised.
