PM Modi invites Obama to R-Day

New Delhi, Nov 21 (IBNS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday invited US President Barack Obama as the Chief Guest at the Republic Day next year.

“This Republic Day, we hope to have a friend over.. . invited President Obama to be the 1st US President to grace the occasion as Chief Guest” said the Prime Minister in a statement.

In India, Republic Day commemorates the date (Jan 26, 1950) on which the Constitution of India came into force replacing the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of the country.

Obama had recently greeted Modi during a dinner hosted for the leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and East Asia Summit (EAS) member countries.

Obama praised Modi and said he is 'man of action'.

Modi had also met Obama during his recent visit to the US.
