PM Modi in South Africa, to address BRICS meeting

New Delhi, July 26 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 10th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg on Thursday, a day after he arrived South Africa after winding up his Uganda tour.

Leaders of the BRICS emerging economies -- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa -- are set to meet in Johannesburg for a three-day session in the backdrop of the tough trade policies of the US.

Modi was received by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa ahead of the BRICS 2018 summit at the Sandton International Convention Centre, MEA spokesman Ravish Kumar tweeted.

"Celebrating a decade of BRICS towards Inclusive Growth and Shared Prosperity! PM @narendramodi received by South African President @CyrilRamaphosa ahead of the #BRICS2018 Summit at the Sandton International Convention Centre.#IndiaatBRICS, the tweet said with a picture of Modi and Ramaphosa.

Later, Modi joined fellow BRICS leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On Wednesday, Modi was accorded a warm welcome as he arrived in Pretoria on a three-day visit.

PM Modi is on a 3-nation tour to Africa and has completed delegation level talks in Uganda as well as Rwanda. In Rwanda, PM Modi gifted 200 cows for an economic development project of the East African nation.
