PM Modi congratulates Mamata, Jaya over Assembly poll results

New Delhi, May 19 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday wished both West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa as their TMC and AIADMK are surging ahead to win the Assembly polls in their respective states.

Modi spoke to them and congratulated them for their party's result in the polls.

"Spoken to @MamataOfficial ji & congratulated her on the impressive victory. My best wishes to her as she begins her 2nd term," Modi tweeted.

Speaking on his conversation with the Tamil Nadu CM, Modi said: "Had a telephone conversation with Jayalalithaa ji and congratulated her on her victory. Also conveyed my best wishes to her. @AIADMKOfficial."

As counting of votes is currently underway, in West Bengal, TMC is currently ahead in 214 seats while the Left-Congress alliance is leading in 70 seats.

The BJP is leading in 7 seats while others are ahead in three seats.

With early trends showing a tough battle, the AIADMK is set to capture the Assembly became clearer as the day progressed with the AIADMK  leading in 129 seats. The DMK stood second as it is ahead in 94.
