Visakhapatnam, Oct 14 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday made an aerial survey to take stock of areas hit by Cyclone Hudhud in Visakhapatnam and announced Rs 1000 crore assistance for Andhra Pradesh.

He was accompanied by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

At least 21 people were killed, of which 16 in the Andhra Pradesh port town of Visakhapatnam, owing to the cyclonic storm Hudhud on Sunday.

Visakhapatnam’s airport has been shut down temporarily for repairs as its roof had blown off and the entire premises had been badly damaged due to the cyclonic storm.

Sources said that electricity in Visakhapatnam would begin to be restored partly from Tuesday. Electricity in the city has been down since Saturday when the power supply was cut by the authorities as part of the precautionary measure.

As many as five special teams have been formed by the Chandrababu Naidu-led government in Andhra Pradesh to look after health, restoration, relief, power and sanitation work across the Hudhud-ravaged areas.
