Piyush Goyal fills in for ill Arun Jaitley before interim budget

New Delhi, Jan 23 (IBNS): Railways and coal minister Piyush Goyal was on Wednesday given additional responsibility of finance and corporate affairs portfolios during the time Arun Jaitley is unable to carry out his responsibilities because of ill health.

This comes days before the Interim Budget, which is scheduled to be presented on February 1.

Jaitley, 66, is now in the US for treatment.

"The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, hereby directed that during the period of indisposition of Shri Arun Jaitley, Minister; the portfolios of Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs held by him, be temporarily assigned to Shri Piyush Goyal, in addition to his existing portfolios," a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan said on Wednesday evening.

"Further, as advised by the Prime Minister, Shri Arun Jaitley be designated as Minister without portfolio during the period of his indisposition or till such time he is able to resume his work as Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs," it added.
