Thiruvanthapuram, May 25 (IBNS) CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan will take oath on Wednesday to become the Chief Minister of Kerala after the coalition, led by Left parties came to power last week winning 90 of the 140 Assembly seats.

The CPI (M) chose Vijayan, 72, as the chief ministerial candidate after the election results were announced on  May 19.

The Left coalition or the Left and Democratic Front (LDF) unseated the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) to regain power after five years.

Vijayan will take oath this evening with 19 ministers at the central stadium. The ceremony is expected to draw about 40,000 people.

Vijayan served for 17 years as the CPI (M)'s Kerala state secretary.  He has been elected to the state assembly five times and won this year's election from Dharmadam constituency by a margin of 36,000 votes.

He has declared that the government to be headed by him will be a people's government which work for the people.

"This will be a people's government and will function for the welfare of the people. There will be no caste, religious and political barriers and we will function with that spirit,"  Vijayan said.
