Petroleum ministry warns PMUY beneficiaries about fraudulent agencies

| | Jun 29, 2016, at 08:39 pm
New Delhi, Jun 29 (IBNS): Union Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has warned beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) about dealing with unscrupulous agencies and has asked them to contact only the authorised distributors/ representatives of Government Oil Marketing Companies.
It has come to the notice of the Union ministry that in certain areas, unscrupulous people posing as Governmen- appointed NGOs are trying to contact beneficiaries for facilitating release of LPG connections under PMUY, and are charging money.

A few people associated with one such fraud agency operating in Bareilly area (UP) have been arrested by the local police.

Under the PMUY, the government offers LPG connections to poor families, especially to women applicants, to ensure smokeless kitchens.

Under this scheme, applicants can avail LPG connections without applicable deposit, and with an especially priced low-cost stove. The beneficiaries can also avail an interest-free loan for purchase of stove and cost of first refill. Beneficiaries under this scheme are identified based on SECC data, as per 2011 census.

LPG connections under PMUY are released only by Authorized LPG Distributors of Government Oil Marketing Companies, under the supervision of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG).

The Union Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG) has said that it has not appointed any NGO or any other agency for releasing LPG connections under PMUY. Any such NGO/Agency, if operating in any area, is totally illegal and information on same should be provided to police and other local authorities.

The MoP&NG, through network of OMC appointed LPG distributors, releases LPG connections to PMUY beneficiaries. All prospective beneficiaries should only approach LPG distributors of Government Oil Marketing Companies like Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited. In case of any doubt/ clarification, beneficiaries can get in touch with local officers of these Oil Marketing Companies.
