Tripura, Mar 3 (IBNS): After routing the Left in Tripura after 25 years, northeast BJP in-charge Ram Madhav  said people of the state have voted for a change following the slogan "Chalo Paltai (Lets make a change)" raised by the saffron party ahead of the poll.

Though the counting is still going on, the trends of the result indicates the BJP is going to uproot the Left from its last bastion by winning 40 seats in a 59-member Assembly. The Left is now leading in just 19 seats.

Interacting with media, Madhav said: "It is the blessings of people that led us to this victory. We welcome the historic verdict."

Madhav even credited BJP's northeast leader and Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the landslide victory in Tripura.

Regarding the appointment of the next Chief Minister of the state, Madhav said: "BJP Parliamentary board will meet to select the CM."

Apart from Tripura, the BJP has taken a lead in Nagaland as well.

In Nagaland, the BJP is leading in 29 seats while NPF is ahead in 26 seats. The Congress is ahead in just 1 seat.

Madhav said the BJP will form the next government in Nagaland with the support of NPF.

However in Meghalaya, the BJP has a poor show as it is so far leading in just 5 seats.

In Meghalaya, the trends are hinting at a hung Assembly. The Congress here is appearing as the single largest party with 21 seats. NPP is leading in 14 seats and BJP in only 5 seats.

With the wins in Tripura and Nagaland, the BJP will be in power in 21 of the total 29 states of the country.
