'People have chosen their CM': BJP's Khushbu Sundar backs Vijay amid Tamil Nadu political drama

Chennai/IBNS: Actor-politician Khushbu Sundar has backed Vijay as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu amid intense political activity over government formation, media reports said.

‘People have chosen their CM’

In a post on X, Sundar said Vijay should lead the government since the people’s mandate favoured his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

“As a citizen of Tamilnadu State, when people have chosen their CM, he should lead,” she wrote.

TVK emerges as single largest party

The actor-turned-politician’s party, TVK, made a stunning electoral debut by emerging as the single largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, though it fell short of the majority mark.

The result disrupted the decades-old bipolar contest between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), significantly reshaping the state’s political landscape.

Governor seeks clarity on support

Reports said TVK currently enjoys the backing of 113 MLAs, including five legislators from DMK ally Indian National Congress.

According to NDTV, R. V. Arlekar asked Vijay how he planned to form the government and which parties would support his administration.

TVK has reportedly indicated that it expects support from six more legislators, including four from Left parties.

Congress extends conditional backing

The Congress has offered conditional support to TVK, saying it would support the single largest party provided “communal forces” are kept out of the alliance.

DMK, AIADMK alliances suffer setback

The ruling DMK was reduced to 59 seats in the election, while the AIADMK-BJP alliance secured 47 seats, marking a major setback for both traditional Dravidian power blocs.
