PDP to take a call on Sunday on attending all party meet with PM: Report

Srinagar/IBNS: PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has said her party will hold a meeting on Sunday to discuss the Centre's invite for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with all parties of Jammu and Kashmir, said a media report.

The Prime Minister will discuss important issues, including restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, in what will be his first major outreach to end the political impasse between the Centre and the regional parties of the union territory, said an NDTV report.

Ahead of the announcement of the PM's meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah met National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu Kashmir and top security and intelligence officers, the report informed.

In August 2019, the Centre had withdrawn the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the states into two union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Several leaders of Jammu and Kashmir, including former Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah were put under house arrest, just before the Centre announced the abrogation of Article 371 in parliament.

"I have received a call for the meeting on June 24. I am expecting a formal invite today or tomorrow," Mufti was quoted as saying by NDTV. The former Chief Minister said her party will take a decision on attending the meeting with the Prime Minister.

The political process in Jammu and Kashmir is likely to be initiated and the Centre is also expected to discuss assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir due since 2018, the report said.

The Gupkar Alliance, a grouping of seven political parties, formed to campaign for the restoration of special status of Jammu Kashmir has indicated willingness to participate in the talks, it added.

In the local body elections in the union territory, held on December last year, the Gupkar Alliance won 100 seats while BJP emerged as the single largest party with 74 seats.
