Pathankot probe: JIT from Pakistan meets India's NIA
New Delhi, Mar 28 (IBNS) A five-member joint investigation team (JIT) from Pakistan met officials from India’s National Investigative Agency (NIA) in Delhi on Monday as part of their own investigation into India's Pathankot (Jammu and Kashmir) air base attack, which took place on January 2.
India has blamed Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed for the attack.
The terrorists were engaged in an 80-hour-long gun battle with Indian security personnel.
According to reports, JIT has asked for several information from NIA during the meeting.
Reportedly, JIT wants the bank account details and mobile phone call records of Punjab police officer Salwinder Singh who claimed that he was kidnapped by the six terrorists who attacked the air base in Pathankot.
JIT has asked for the copies of FIRs lodged regarding the killing of Indian taxi driver Ikagar Singh, who was reportedly murdered by the terrorists.
The Pakistani team has also asked for sketch and closed circuit television (CCTV) footage of the gun battle, transcripts of communication that took place during the nearly three day operation in the air base as well as access to the personnel from National Security Guard and the special forces who were witness to the battle.
However, the Indian government has denied access to the special forces personnel as well as refused to hand over the mobile phones used by the terrorists, according to reports.
JIT has also asked for post-mortem reports and DNA of attackers.
According to media reports, the Pakistani team will be allowed limited access to the Pathankot air base on Tuesday but only to those areas involved with the incident. The rest of the air base has been barricaded so that it cannot be seen by the visiting team.
The Congress party has raised questions regarding the inclusion of an Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) official in the JIT and said that the Union government is laying out a ‘red carpet’ for the Pakistani team, according to reports.
The Pakistani team, consisting of two intelligence officers, including one from ISI, and three investigators, who have been given a seven-day visa, will conduct their inquiries in Delhi and Punjab.
