Parliament security breach: 6th accused Mahesh Kumawat remanded to 7-day police custody

The police interrogated Kumawat extensively, leading a Delhi court to remand him to the custody of Delhi Police for seven days for further questioning., India Today reported.

Hailing from the Nagaur district of Rajasthan, Mahesh had arrived in Delhi on December 13, the day of the incident where two individuals leaped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery, and opened smoke canisters and triggering a nationwide alarm.

Mahesh's hideout in Rajasthan was the destination where the principal conspirator, Lalit Jha, sought refuge after escaping from Delhi following the incident, according to the report.

Police sources revealed that Mahesh helped Lalit in destroying the mobile phones of the initial four accused who were arrested.

Mahesh was in continuous contact with Neelam Devi, who faced arrest for staging a protest outside the Parliament while other members of their group infiltrated the Lok Sabha, the report said.

Both Lalit and Mahesh had surrendered together at the police station in the New Delhi area on Thursday.

On November 13, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D breached the Lok Sabha's chamber during Zero Hour, releasing yellow smoke from canisters, and shouting slogans, but were immediately subdued by Members of Parliament.

Simultaneously, Amol Shinde and Neelam Devi, at that same time, released coloured smoke from canisters outside the Parliament premises while shouting the slogan, "tanashahi nahi chalegi (dictatorship won't be allowed)." All four have been arrested and are facing terrorism charges.

Following interrogation, the police said that the accused had a motive to "create anarchy" in the country to compel the government to address their demands.

Authorities are investigating the "actual motive behind the attack" and examining any potential connections to other nations or terrorist organisations.
