Pakistan fires few rounds, violates truce on IB in Jammu

Jammu/UNI: Pakistan troops on Wednesday morning violated the ceasefire by firing a few rounds along the International Border (IB) in the Arnia sector of Jammu here.

Official sources said that Pakistan Rangers early morning fired unprovoked around 20 to 25 rounds in the Arnia sector, along the International Border.

"BSF troops also retaliated to the firing," they said, adding that no injury or damage was reported in the cross border firing.

Earlier on May 18, BSF troops foiled an infiltration bid and captured one intruder in injured condition in Samba sector.

On May 14, BSF also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition dropped by the drone from Pakistan in bordering Samba district.

One AK -47, one Pistol, one Magazine, 15 rounds of 9 mm, one wooden frame (used to attach payload with drone) and wrapping material was recovered by the troops from the international border approximately 250 meters inside Indian Territory.

India and Pakistan had announced cease firing across their shared border on February 25, the first such step since 2003 and a potentially significant move toward reducing tensions between the two rivals.

The India and Pakistani armies on February 25 this year had released a joint statement saying they had agreed to a ceasefire on borders.
