Pak cornered: UNSC resolution on Pulwama endorses India's 'stand and language'

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI/IBNS) :India on Friday welcomed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution on Pulwama terror attack and said that Pakistan has come "under international pressure to act against terrorists and terror groups" operating in that country.

"There is endorsement to India's stance and hence a diplomatic success for New Delhi as the resolution adopted at the UNSC meet - attended by permanent and non permanent members including China - contained specific language that India had proposed," a diplomatic source said here.

Sources also said India has pushed for adoption of its stand and language in the resolution through 'partner countries' including on the naming of Jaish-e-Mohammad and "to bring perpetrators to justice".

France has played a key role in pushing the resolution, sources said and so did countries like the US - whose top leadership including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had urged Pakistan to act firm.

"We stand with India as it confronts terrorism. Pakistan must not provide safe haven for terrorists to threaten international security," Mr Pompeo had tweeted.

In this context, Indian side were enthusiastic to note that the UNSC members categorically "expressed" their deepest sympathy and condolences to families of victims of Pulwama attack.

The UNSC also underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice.

"They also urged all states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of India and all other relevant authorities in this regard".

Earlier, MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar tweeted saying - "UNSC strongly condemns cowardly suicide bombing in Pulwama by Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM)".
