Pak carrying out swift probe on Pathankot attack: Nawaz Sharif to John Kerry

Islamabad, Jan 10 (IBNS): Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, on a telephone call, has assured US Secretary of State John Kerry that his country is carrying out "swift" and "transparent" investigations into the terror attack that took place on Indian Air Force base at Pathankot.

"Kerry extended full support to the Prime Minister to find out the truth in the Pathankot terror incident," a statement issued by the Pakistan Prime Minister's Office said.

According to the statement, Sharif told Kerry that "we are swiftly carrying out investigations in a transparent manner and will bring out the truth. The world will see our effectiveness and sincerity in this regard."

Kerry's call to Sharif came amid Indian intelligence reports suggesting that Pakistan-based terror outfits have carried out the attack on the Pathankot air base.

India has urged Pakistan to take immediate action against  those who conceived and executed the attack.

The evidence furnished by India includes intercepts of phone calls made by the six terrorists to their handlers in Pakistan. Ammunition and other equipment recovered from them after they were killed were made in Pakistan.

At a second high-level meeting on Friday, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz  Sharif reiterated his country's commitment to cooperate with India on investigating the attack.

After a meeting on Thursday, he had ordered an investigation into the evidence provided by India.
