Bangalore, July 25 (IBNS): Over 90 buses were damaged by protesters across Karnataka on Monday morning, the first day of the indefinite strike called by all the four bus organisation in the state, reports said.

The strike left commuters reeling, who in turn caused the damage amounting to Rs 8,97,300.

Around 3000 policemen have been deployed to keep violence under control, the Times of India reported.

Bus workers went on indefinite strike demanding a 30 percent increase in DA. The list also consists of a rest room for ladies in all bus stops, a creche for the workers' children and inter-corporational transfers, the daily reported.

Meanwhile, taking advantage of the situation, auto drivers are operating at an increased rate. Police have promised strict action against them if caught doing so.

The frequency of Metro and trains have also been increased to compensate for the lack of buses.
