New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday attacked the Centre over the spread of COVID-19 infection and said the only way to stop it is by imposing complete lockdown.

He said the Indian government is 'killing' innocent people.

" GOI doesn’t get it. The only way to stop the spread of Corona now is a full lockdown- with the protection of NYAY for the vulnerable sections. GOI’s inaction is killing many innocent people," Gandhi tweeted.

India continued to witness a spike in COVID-19 cases as 357,229 new cases were registered in the past 24 hours, as per Ministry of health released data on Tuesday.

The country's total COVID-19 tally crossed the  20-million mark with the fresh registered cases.

During the same period, 3,449 new fatalities were also recorded.

The total death toll due to the virus now stands at 222,408.

India is currently combating a deadlier second wave of the COVID-19 at present.

The country has registered over 3 lakh daily COVID-19 cases for the past several days.

Oxygen shortages, deaths and hospitals struggling to provide beds to patients have become a common picture across the nation.

In the past 24 hours, 3,20,289 people have recovered from COVID-19.
