Guwahati, Jan 24 (IBNS) : At least one army personnel was injured and two army vehicles damaged when an armed militant group ambushed an army convoy at Namsai area along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on Wednesday morning.

According to reports, suspected militants of CorCom and Paresh Baruah-led ULFA (I) allegedly ambushed the army convoy of 11 Grenadier Regiment in the area between Nongtau Khamti and Piyong under Namsai district in Arunachal Pradesh along the state's border with Assam.

Assam ADGP (SB) Pallav Bhattacharya said that the militant group launched a grenade attack when the army convoy was returning after conducting operation against militants in the Ingnaou area.

“In the militant attack, two army vehicles were damaged. Militants opened fire on the security personnel who returned the fire,” the top Assam cop said.

Meanwhile, a source alleged that one army jawan was injured in the ambush.

Top police and army officials rushed to the remote jungle area upon hearing news of the gunfight, reports said.

At least 10 banned outfit groups, including ULFA (I), NSCN (K), NDFB (S), PDCK, HNLC , have called for a boycott of the Republic Day celebration and shut down on January 26.
