Odisha coal mine mishap: Search operation continues for three missing mine workers

Bhubaneswar, July 25 (UNI): Search operation is on for the second day today at Bharatpur open cast mine in Talcher Coalfields of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) for missing three coal workers.

The body of one Pupun Biswal (driver) of SICAL company (contractor) was recovered yesterday from the debris of landmass that collapsed late Tuesday night.

Search is on for three other workers of SICAL company, namely Rashmi Ranjan Behera (supervisor), Ramesh Dash (security guard) and Raj Kishore Mohapatra (pump khalasi), who had gone missing after the accident.

The NDRF along with Mines Rescue team of MCL are conducting the rescue operation.

The search operation was suspended at 1430 hrs today due to heavy downpour.

MCL sources said an ex-gratia amount of Rs five lakh to the next of kin of the deceased will be paid along with full compensation as calculated on the basis of the age of the deceased as per Employees Compensation Act, gratuity amount of 15 days wage of the worker for each year of service completed, Provident Fund (PF), benefits under Coal Mines Pension Scheme and an employment in contractual establishment to a family member.
