NSA Ajit Doval reappointed, gets cabinet rank

New Delhi, Jun 3 (UNI): National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Sunday was reappointed and given the rank of a cabinet minister by the government in recognitionof his contribution to national security so far.

According to a notification of Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on June 2, the reappointment of Mr Doval is co-terminus with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi tenure in the office.

In his earlier stint as NSA, he was given the minister of state status like his predecessor except Brijesh Mishra who had also been given cabinet rank in the Atal Behari Vajpayee government.

Decorated with Kirti Chakra, the second-highest peace time award, Mr Doval is a retired officer of the Indian Police Service and the fifth NSA of India.

He was Intelligence Bureau director in 2004 to 2005 after spending a decade as head of the 'Operation wing' of the Bureau.

Under his supervision, Indian surgical strike on Sept 29, 2016, and Balakot Airstrike on February 26 were successfully conducted.
