Not part of grand alliance in Uttar Pradesh, Congress clarifies

Lucknow, Mar 6 (UNI): Uttar Pradesh Congress on Wednesday declared they were not part of the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal alliance.

“The Grand Alliance is among the parties that reached an understanding over seat sharing and Congress had not made any such arrangement with the Mahaghatbandhan of SP-BSP-RLD combine,” said Onkar Singh, spokesman of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee.

The Congress spokesman said that the Grand Alliance had left only two seats for party’s senior leaders and they would also leave some seats for senior leaders of the Mahaghatbandhan.

Singh said the Congress was confident of winning the maximum seats in the Parliament elections on their own.

“Many senior leaders of other parties, including the BJP, which also included a sitting Member of Parliament, legislators along with former MPs and MLAs are joining the Congress every day because they are confident that the Congress is coming to power,” said Singh.

On Tuesday, while announcing the SP-BSP-RLD alliance, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav had said the Congress was a part of the grand alliance and that they had left two seats – Rae Bareli and Amethi – for them.
