No phone call between Modi and Trump during military action: Jaishankar

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday addressed the Rajya Sabha on Operation Sindoor and once again said US President Donald Trump had played no role in India’s military operation against Pakistan in May.

He said no telephone conversation occurred between Indian PM Narendra Modi and Trump to halt the action.

“There was no telephonic conversation between the two leaders from April 22 to June 16," Jaishankar was quoted as saying in the Upper House of the Parliament.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched another attack on Narendra Modi over US President Donald Trump's "ceasefire" claims, even after the Prime Minister claimed no global leader asked India to stop Operation Sindoor.

Speaking to the reporters, Rahul said Modi couldn't take Trump's name as that would, as the Congress leader claims, will prompt the US President to "reveal the truth".

Rahul, the Leader of Opposition, Lok Sabha, said, "The Prime Minister did not mention Trump's name. Everyone knows what has happened, and the Prime Minister is unable to speak. If the PM speaks out, Trump will speak openly and reveal the entire truth, which is why the Prime Minister is unable to speak.

"Trump is repeatedly saying the same thing because he will pressure Narendra Modi in the trade deal. You will see what kind of trade deal is made."

In what has turned out to be a strong reply to the Opposition, Modi on Tuesday said Operation Sindoor was "non-escalatory".

"India's policy, which was well-considered and thoroughly discussed with our military, was that our targets are terrorists, their masterminds, and their hideouts. We clearly stated from the beginning that our actions were non-escalatory, which is why we agreed to a ceasefire," the Prime Minister said in the Lok Sabha.

Modi, who participated in the debate on Operation Sindoor, gave a befitting reply to Rahul, who dared the Prime Minister to call Trump a liar.

The Prime Minister, in unequivocal words said no global leader asked India to stop the operation, which was launched to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.

Modi referred to a call from US Vice President JD Vance who had communicated to him that Pakistan was "planning to launch a major offensive" to which the Prime Minister, as he claimed, warned Islamabad to "face dire consequences" via the US Veep.

The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor hitting nine terrorist bases in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The military conflict escalated after Pakistan targeted civilians across the borders without any provocation to be aptly countered by the Indian military.Nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) were targeted and destroyed in 25 minutes of Operation Sindoor.

The terrorists camps were the major training hubs of Pak-based terror groups- Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Hizbul Mujahideen.
