New Delhi/UNI: Clearing the air over rumours spread regarding Citizenship Amendment Act among some sections of the society the Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Wednesday said that no Indian citizen will be robbed off his or her citizenship with enactment of Citizenship Amendment Act.

During his address at the Minorities Day programme here, Naqvi clarified that the Act is aimed towards granting citizenship and will not take away the citizenship.

He appealed to the people to stay away from rumours being spread by some people with vested interests who wanted to create an unrest in the country and create an atmosphere of fear.

Explaining CAA, Naqvi said that the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 is the commitment to provide “Humanitarian Dignity” to “Inhuman Humiliation”.

Quoting Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, he said that India is “Sea of Humanity”. “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” is our cultural commitment. India has always provided justice to those facing injustice and oppression.

The minister said that besides the Indian Constitution; secularism and tolerance in the DNA of the majority community in India has ensured “safety, prosperity and dignity” of Minorities in the country.

Secularism and tolerance is in the DNA of majority community in India. This is the strength of India’s “Unity in Diversity”, he added.

He said that some people with vested interest are trying hard to create an atmosphere of fear and want to play divisive politics based on communal grounds through such rumours.

Naqvi further appealed to the people to maintain harmony and not let such forces succeed in their design to create distress.

The minister said that more than eight lakh people who belonged to the minority communities have been provided employment during the last five years which was possible because of the various steps for welfare and empowerment of the minorities taken by the government.
