Nitish Katara murder case : Yadav cousins get 25 years in prison

| | Oct 03, 2016, at 06:59 pm
New Delhi, Oct 3 (IBNS) : Vikas and Vishal Yadav, the cousin duo convicted for the abduction and murder of Nitish Katara in 2002, were on Monday sentenced by the Supreme Court to 25 years in jail, reports said.

The court also sentenced the third convict, Sukhdev  Pehalwan to 20 years in prison.

With this order, the apex court upheld the verdict of the Delhi High Court, which had in February , 2015, sentenced the Yadavs to 25 years in jail and their aide to 20 years.

The Supreme Court, however, said the sentences given by the High Court for additional five years each for destruction of evidence would run concurrently and not one after the other.

Nitish Katara, a 25-year-old executive, was kidnapped and burnt to death in Ghaziabad near Delhi in 2002. He was in love with  Bharti Yadav, the daughter of a politician DP Yadav.

Nitish, who along with Bharti, attended a wedding in 2002, was abducted by  Bharti's brother Vikas Yadav and their cousin Vishal. He was later found murdered.

The High Court had called it an "honour killing", saying it was a "rarest of rare category".
