Nine persons injured in blast in poll bound Manipur

Guwahati, Mar 2 (IBNS): At least nine persons were injured in a blast in Manipur on Thursday evening, two days before the two-phased assembly poll ibegins n the north eastern Indian state.

According to the reports, the blast took place near the temporary residence of National People’s Front (NPF) candidate Leoshiyo Lanthungching in Phangyar constituency in Ukhrul district.

Ukhrul police said that, the blast occurred around 5 pm at Longol area and suspected militants had triggered the explosion.

“Nine people were injured in the blast and they were immediately rushed to nearest hospital,” a police official said.

Among them two are reported in critical condition.

Meanwhile top police, army officials were rushed to the blast area and launched operation against attackers.

Manipur is going to hold the assembly polls in two phases on March 4 and 8.
