Guwahati, Aug 9 (IBNS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrant against the Chairman of the anti-talk faction group of United Front of Asom (ULFA - Independent).

The investigation agency carried out probe at the house of Abhijit Asom alias Dr Mukul Hazarika, Chairman of the outlawed at Puranigudam area in Nagaon district.

Earlier, the investigating agency had summoned the Chairman of the outfit group related to the case 4/2013 registered at the agency’s Guwahati branch in the Lachit Nagar area.

On July 15 last, NIA had filed a chargesheet before the special NIA court in Guwahati.against the three top brass leaders of the anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Fron of Asom (ULFA) for intending to wage war against the country.

The investigation agency had filed charge sheet against C-in-C of the outlawed Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom alias Kamruj Zaman alias Nur-Uz-Zaman alias Zaman Bhai alias Pradip alias Paban Baruah, its Chairman Dr Abhijit Asom alias Dr AbhizeetAsom alias Abhijit barman alias Dr Mukul Hazaria and Gagan Hazarika alias Joydeep Cheleng.

While Paresh Asom and Abhijit Asom are still absconding, the third accused, Gagan Hazarika, is in police custody.

According to the statement of the central investigation agency, it registered a suo-moto case (RC-04/2013/NIA-GUW) against the outfit group in December 2013 in their Guwahati office and the chargesheet was filed under sections 17, 18, 18A, 18B and 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 and 121A, 124A, 120B, 385 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The NIA statement said that, the anti-talk faction of ULFA headed by Paresh Baruah and other members of ULFA are trying to revive terrorist activities by recruiting new cadres, organizing terrorist camps within as well as beyond Indian territories and resorting to extortion and kidnapping to raise funds for attacking Indian security forces, government establishment and infrastructure, thereby intending to wage war against the country.

“The NIA has collected sufficient materials, technical as well as circumstantial evidences against the accused persons during the course of investigation and established the allegations against the accused persons,” the central investigation agency said in the statement.

The NIA said in the statement that, Paresh Baruah has been absconding in Myanmar and Dr Mukul Hazarika in United Kingdom.

“NIA has declared them as absconders and further course of action as per law is being initiated,” said in the statement.

The central investigation agency will carry out investigations against another top brass leader of the outfit Drishti Rajkhowa and other senior leaders.

While the investigation agency had issued non-bailable arrest warrant and was trying to arrest the banned ULFA (I) Chairman Abhijit Asom alias Dr Mukul Hazarika and trace the hideouts of the most wanted terrorist, the Assam government had recently paid a compensation to his family towards acquisition of land for the purpose of construction of National Highway on the basis of Abhijit Asom’s letter.

ULFA (I) Chairman Abhijit Asom alias Dr Mukul Hazarika had sent a letter of declaration to the revenue department of the Assam government on February 3, 2016 from Elton, England to pay compensation including his share to his family.

“I have no objection if the full compensation including my share towards the acquisition of land for the purpose of construction of National Highway over our ancestral property is paid to the family of my elder brother Kumudeswar Hazarika,” Abhijit Asom alias Dr Mukul Hazarika said in the letter.
