NIA arrests terrorist plotting to use Manipur ethnic unrest against India

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday apprehended a man from Manipur’s Churachandpur district on charges of playing a part in a conspiracy to use the ongoing ethnic unrest in the state against the Indian government, media reports said.

The man identified as Seiminlun Gangte was allegedly part of the conspiracy planned by terror modules based in Myanmar and Bangladesh, India Today reported.

The Central terror probe agency said these outfits wanted to wage war against the Indian government by exploiting the ethnic unrest in Manipur.

NIA said the external militant organizations had connived with a section of militant leaders in India to wage war against the Indian government.

Terror organizations located outside India were providing funds to procure arms, ammunition, and other types of terrorist hardware for this purpose.

These items were being sourced from across the border as well as from other terrorist outfits active in the Northeast, NIA said, according to the report.

The accused has been brought to New Delhi after his arrest and will be produced before a jurisdictional court, the report said.
