Nehru spied on Subhash Bose's family : Intelligence report

| | Apr 10, 2015, at 05:06 pm
New Delhi, Apr 10 (IBNS) In a startling revelation two recently de-classified Intelligence Bureau files state that former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru spied on the family of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose for two decades from 1948 to 1968, even though the first premier of India died in 1964.

A report says that intelligence personnel not only used to intercept and copy letters written by Bose's family members, but also shadowed them on their domestic and foreign travels to know who they met and what discussions they had.

The report quotes BJP leader MJ Akbar as claiming that the government was unsure whether Bose was dead. Akbar says Bose was the only charismatic leader who could have mobilised Opposition unity against Congress, and offered it a serious challenge in the 1957 elections

Describing it as "unfortunate," Janata Dal United KC Tyagi said, "I find it hard to believe Nehru spied on Bose's family"

"If what is being reported is true, it is very unfortunate."

Bose's grandnephew Chandra Kumar demanded a judicial probe into the spying.

"The spying of Subhash Chandra Bose is very shocking. We never expected that Nehru would spy on Subhash Chandra Bose," he said.
