Naveen promises pucca houses for all slum-residents in Odisha by 2022

Bhubaneswar, Mar 6 (UNI): Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik today said not a single slum-dweller in the state would be left out without a 'pucca' house by 2022.

Addressing a massive gathering here during foundation stone laying and inauguration of several projects worth around Rs 1,300 crore, Naveen said Odisha has taken up “Housing for All” on a priority basis.

The state government, he said, was implementing the “Policy for Housing for All in Urban Areas, Odisha” of  2015 to create a comprehensive, holistic policy framework to address all aspects of housing for the urban poor.

The government has established a mission called “Odisha Urban Housing Mission (OUHM)” and earmarked adequate financial, technical and managerial resources to this effort.

Naveen said the state government envisaged seven models for intervention under the Housing for All Policy, which could operate independently or in combination with each other to meet the objective of housing for all.

On the occasion, Naveen distributed 8,665 entitlement certificates, 104 final allotment letters and 130 provisional allotments letters to slum residents of the city.

The chief minister also announced a special package of Rs 1,000 crore for the drainage development across the city to prevent flooding and water logging in low-lying areas in the state capital.

The state government has already distributed more than 2,000 allotment letters to more than 10,000 slum residents across the city.
