Kolkata, Jan 25 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday wished people of India on National Voter's day.

She said it is important for young voters of the country to exercise their franchise during the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

India will vote to elect a new government at the Centre in the next few months.

" Today is #NationalVotersDay. Being able to cast a vote and elect a person of our choice is what makes us the world’s largest democracy. It is extremely important that the voters, specially the new, young voters, exercise their franchise in the upcoming general elections," she tweeted.

In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, Government of India has decided to celebrate Jan 25 every year as "National Voters' Day".

It has been started from Jan 25, 2011 to mark Commission's foundation day.
