National government should be formed to save the country: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, Jan 6 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday attacked the Centre over the note ban issue and once again demanded for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resignation, besides demanding for the formation of a "national government".

Banerjee said the "national government" should be headed by senior BJP leader  L K Advani, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley or Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

“To save this country, let a national Government be formed: Advani ji, Rajnath ji or Jaitleyji could head it. This current situation just unacceptable," Banerjee said while addressing a press conference at Town Hall here.

She urged President Pranab Mukherjee to 'save' the nation from 'mess'.

Days after the time period for depositing banned currency notes in banks lapsed, President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday said demonetisation may lead to temporary slowdown of the economy.

Welcoming the comment, Banerjee said: "We appeal to the President to save the country from the mess. It is time for President’s Rule at Centre”.

In his New Year message to Governors and Lt. Governors, President Pranab Mukherjee said: "Demonetisation, while immobilizing black money and fighting corruption, may lead to temporary slowdown of the economy."

He said there is need for being "extra careful" to alleviate the suffering of the poor, cautioning that this section of the society may not be able to wait too long.
